Foreigners now detest Nigerians due to precedence of fraudster who use other nationals for material gains.
Various anti-graft agencies have continued to fight this menace to the society. Every commercial website designed to enhance the easy flow of transactions have now been infested with fake adverts.
Websites like Tradestable.com.ng, olx.com.ng, cheki.com.ng, etc have all been infested with fake adverts like ridiculous pricing for goods and even pets.
While most of these sites offer free services like postings and uploads for sale of goods and services, it is however not regulated as they never seem to control what comes unto the website.
For Example:
A sparkling Toyota haice (Hiace) can never be sold for a sum as low as N400,000 and from the spelling of the model of Toyota, you should know this is a school dropout not a case of typographic error.
HOW THEY OPERATE
If you make a call for Enquiry, the questions they ask you are:
Where are you calling from?
- What as that got to do with the availability of the goods? This is to ascertain your location to avoid inspection, then they request a little payment, quite irrelevant to the cost of the vehicle which is negligible.
What website did you see the advert?
- This is another flash point to be sure of what format was adopted for the website.
What price did you see on the advert?
- This is one of the numerous dumb questions they ask, how can you advertise a product and you can not remember the value? They have posted so much items they can not remember which is which.
WHAT TO DO
- Look out for the vital signs.
- Ask them for account numbers ( to get their real names ), we will assist in submitting to the appropriate authorities and their real pictures will be pasted on major sites.
- Ask for their mobile phone numbers, we will retrieve their data from the mobile network, if the phone is registered.
WHAT NOT TO DO
- Do not be in a hurry to part away with your money
- Do not pay without proper inspection as good as also available are sometimes sold in bad condition
- Do not make upfront payments
- Do not reveal your location
